Ballysillan Primary School Ballysillan Park, Belfast

Welcome

The Nursery Unit is situated with the Primary School and offers full time Nursery education to 26 pupils from 8.55am to 1.30pm. The Nursery Unit works very closely with the primary school which provides our pupils with exciting opportunities to use; the Music Room, Library, I.C.T suite and P.E. Hall on a weekly basis. This also helps to ensure a smooth transition from Nursery into P1.

In our Nursery we aim to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment where children can learn and grow. Our experienced staff provide play based learning activities based upon the Northern Ireland Pre-school Curriculum. Nursery offers a new and exciting opportunity for our pupils to explore and grow every day! Outdoor play is an integral part of our day which provides pupils with opportunities to explore and investigate our outdoor classroom ensuring they naturally develop knowledge about the world around them.

A typical day in Nursery involves playing and learning indoors and outdoors, having snack and dinner, listening to stories, dancing and singing. Every month we learn about a different topic which always gives us new and exciting learning experiences.

Ballysillan Nursery Unit is involved in lots of different projects which makes every term exciting and different. We take part in a Shared Education programme with St Vincent de Paul Nursery Unit which involves learning and playing together. This year we have watched Mr Hullaballoo, taken part in Jump, Jiggle and Jive dance sessions, played outdoors and visited the zoo together. We also take part in a project called; “Getting Ready to Learn” which provides your child with the opportunity to borrow new educational toys and books every week! We love the arts and take part in a “Young at Art” drama programme whereby the pupils can enjoy drama and art workshops as well as see a show in The Mac Theatre in Belfast. Throughout the year we visit the farm, listen to visitors from the R.S.P.B, talk about the environment, take part in yoga classes and go on a teddy bears picnic.

Please feel free to contact us with any enquires and we look forward to hearing from you very soon.
